Day with Kim and Emily

On Sunday, my parents flew out, so I spent the day with Kim and Emily! We had a blast, and it was the first time I'd met Emily. She was a sweetie! We even shared a drink in the airport while waiting for our planes!

We started out at our favorite local Mexican food place...site of many a date and celebration among faculty and grad students! They had AMAZING margaritas and Sangria swirls. And I always got the enchiladas (shredded beef with chili con queso and avocado with cream sauce. We spent the time gossiping and being goofy.

The old entrance...where they sometimes had live music and where you waited if it was crowded.

At J&B coffee house. Kim bought a video camera just for graduation! We stopped for water and Kim finagled a free dessert for graduation. Emily and I were too full to eat more than a bite...

Kim and I used to meet here for studying. My friends and I also frequented other fave coffee shops...Aroma's, Starbucks...Daybreak.

Dr. Fireman's old house...where he hosted several faculty/student parties!

My first year at Tech, I bought a commuter parking pass. Never again. lol Took too long to find a spot and too long to walk to the psychology building or wait for buses. SO, the grad students found 22nd street...a place to park for free all day! I did that the rest of my time there. It was only a few blocks from Tech. The only time it was a problem...if it was pouring. Lubbock had no drainage system, and once there were dead rats everywhere. Or if it was snowy and bitter cold or really hot. Imagine wearing dress clothes to see your clients in on a hot day when you sweat to death or on a snowy day when your hands got numb and you fell on your butt in heels (like me)! lol The closer streets were generally two-hour parking...the tickets for these were $2-4, so sometimes it was worth it!

19th street where we crossed to get to the psychology building (which was straight through that dorm building you see). They had free newspapers in the dorm and it was always a nice break from the weather on the way in. In the summer time, you could pay to park in the dorm lots, which was nice! This is also the scene of where I wrecked cars with one of the guys I eventually dated long-term in Lubbock! lol

Me and Kim in front of the psychology building! When I first moved here, the sign was behind the bush, but they moved it...

Then, Kim, Emily and I ventured to the front of the campus! This is the entrance looking toward University Ave.

This is the seal and waterfall that you see when you drive onto campus through the main entrance.

Me by the seal

At the horse...the horse's butt faces Texas A&M...one of TTU's big rivals!

Me by the horse

Emily told me to kiss the horse's butt but I chose to (attempt) to kiss his mouth...hee!

One of my boyfriend's at Tech was into art. One of his fave sculptors made this sculpture bench. It alternates between a sculpture and a bench. There's a runner stretching, a mother and child, a man reading a newspaper, an old man and his dog, and a couple kissing.

One more...

The flag circle...in front of one of the science buildings. The Tech flag is on the right. This is where they had the Carol of Lights every year with carols. They lit the Christmas lights on campus all at once! It was amazing!

Texas Tech sign on the corner across from where I always stopped for gas. Behind it is a field where kids practiced sports and cheerleading during the summer and where the rugby team sometimes practiced. They often had sprinklers going. (In Lubbock, they have to water a lot to keep the grass green, and frequently, the street is what is getting watered!)

Where I always got gas near campus...and look at how cheap it was a few weeks ago!
