True Friend
I put my trust in you
While you smile and encourage,
And my heart WHISPERS.
* * *
I know the routine….
You peer directly into my soul's gates,
And you rip into my mind,…
But when you find common pain
Raw and naked,
You step far, far away,
Unwilling to be part of such
Universal truth.
You don the opaque glasses of pity,
And you rise as the flattered god,…
But when you turn your back
Stiff and cold,
I stand straight as steel,
Unwilling to be a part of such
Distorted empathy.
* * *
I was terrified
When you requested entrance….
But, oh,
…serenity…
When you did not even
Blink.
* * *
I put my trust in you
While you smile and encourage,
And my heart SINGS.
