The donut shop owner groaned. He knew this kid. He always ordered at least a half dozen of the popular donuts. That meant he’d leave with the fresh donuts and the next wave of customers would have to wait till the donuts he made to replace the ones the kid bought were finished cooking.

The kid waved. “Hi! I want…”

“Can’t you go to another donut shop? Please?” the owner asked plaintively.

“You’re the only one close to the school, and since I don’t drive…”

The donut shop owner sighed and pulled on a glove. “What’ll it be today, then?”
