Buffy had walked around on patrol, half-hoping to see Spike and half hoping not to see him. She had no idea what she felt towards him...certainly not hate. Even though she'd told him many times just how much she hated him.
Sitting on her bed, now, she really thought about it. She grabbed the first CD she could find lying around and put it in. Realizing it was Selena, she forwarded it to her favorite song.
Maybe she didn't notice him before because of Angel, she surmised. Where Angel had been...almost afraid of her, in a way, Spike just seemed to accept her.
And he knew her well. "I mean, playing that song, and dancing with me...how could he not?" she mumbled.
"Talking to yourself, Buffy? Not a good sign."
She looked out her window and saw Spike perched on the tree limb. "What are you doing out there!?!" she hissed, pausing the CD.
"Hoping you'd invite me in."
"And you know I can undo the invitation, right?" He nodded. "Against my better judgment, come in."
Clambering in, he almost looked sheepish. "I hope your mum won't wake up cause of that racket."
"She's not here." Buffy picked up her brush and combed her hair back a little. "Not that that means you can do anything."
"Actually, I wanted to get that extension now." He pressed the play button again, and the wonderful Latino music filled the room again.
"Well?" he asked, holding out his hand. She got up and clasped it, and he pulled her closer to him, gently. Her Slayer sense was going berserk right now, but she ignored it, realizing there were other forces at work.
"You know, every fiber in my being is saying this is wrong," Buffy said.
"Do you care?"
"Not really."
"For that, I am glad," he muttered softly, surprised he was with the Slayer, in her room of all places, just dancing. He'd never expected it...
"Why did you ask me to dance tonight?"
The question startled him. "The first time I ever saw you...you were at the Bronze. Dancing, and you seemed so...exquisite."
"But why tonight?"
"I don't know. You looked a bit...lost, and lonely."
"You did too," she said quietly. "That's why I told you to wait."
He looked down at her. "Maybe this means something. Maybe it was--"
"Fate?" He nodded slowly. "We shouldn't be doing this," she said, but she didn't pull away.
"Give me one good reason, other then sacred duties and ex-lovers, why we shouldn't, and I'll leave."
"It's scary," she replied. "I think...I don't know. I'm confused."
"That makes two of us, love, but I've decided to ignore logic for a bit."
She smiled, and leaned back in. "That might be the best idea right now."
Both were lost in their thoughts for a bit, and it was hard to determine when they began to kiss. But soon, they were caught up in a tender embrace, oblivious to all around them except the music and each other.
"Spike, I...I..." Buffy began, only to be silenced by another kiss.
"I understand love," he said, guiding her to her bed and carefully laying her down, his lips never off her skin.
She guided his lips back to hers, and the once tender kiss grew more passionate.
As the kiss deepened, so did their desire to be as close as possible. There had always been an attraction, they both knew that. And now...finally, they could have a chance.
Buffy pulled back. "I don't think I can...do that again, Spike. Not right now."
He nodded, and pulled her close again. "Than can I kiss you? And just be by you?"
"Yes," she said, before returning to kiss him.
They continued to kiss, slowly ignoring everything except each other and the beat of one heart. As the song closed, Spike was reaching over to turn off her lamp.
