Alex glanced at her watch, resuming her pacing. She glanced at Spike, glaring softly. "How can you be so calm?"

Spike kept looking at his paper. "Because I can, love. That's why?"

She rolled her eyes, and opened the curtain a bit, the last of the sun peeking through. She jumped back, letting the curtain shut. "Thought it was sunset already."

Spike grinned. "What's got you so...jumpy?"

"Gaby. She's supposed to have had the twins by now."

Spike shook his head. "Alex, love, Xander said he would call if she went into labor."

She plopped down on the couch next to him, resting her head on his shoulder. "Easier for you to do than for me to do."

He put an arm around her. "You could have done the spell and gone to visit her, you know."

"I know, but I have to be, and you said this, a 'normal vampire'."

Spike chuckled slightly, leaning in for a quick kiss. "You're never going to be normal, dear. It's not possible."

Alex rested her head on his chest, still surprised by the stillness, even after all this time. "How do you know it's not possible?"

"It just isn't. Look at everything about you: you're a witch, you're a vampire, you're still a member of the Watcher's Council..."

"ALEX!"

The yell came from upstairs as Nicole and Julee ran down the stairs of the mansion. They lived upstairs in the more sun-friendly areas while Alex and Spike stayed downstairs.

Nicole had her long blond hair pulled up in a loose bun, but as she bounded down the stairs, her hair started to fall out of it's confines. Julee's short brown hair bobbed up and down in time with the steps she took down two at a time.

"What is it?" Spike asked, moving his head out of the way so Alex could sit up.

"Gaby went into labor!" Julee yelled, grabbing the two dusters near the bottom of the stairs and tossing them to the vampires.

"Don't you two ever keep this place clean?" Nicole asked, looking around.

"Watch it," Alex said, catching Spike's duster before hers hit her in the face.

"Sorry," Julee said. "Yeah, why does this place always look like such a mess?"

"Because we live here, that's why, and why do you two sound like landlords suddenly?" Spike asked, standing up. "We own the place."

"I own the place," Alex corrected, also standing up. "Is it dark outside?"

Nicole nodded. "Dark enough for you two."

Alex nodded. "Well, you guys know the drill. Grab the keys."

"To the Thunderbird or the Lexus?" Julee asked.

"Lexus," Spike said. "And I want to drive this time."

"Fine," Alex said, cringing slightly at the thought of Spike driving her beloved car. Of course, she'd driven his DeSoto in a telephone pole, so...

"Saw that," he said as he smirked, pulling his duster on.

"I was pretty sure you would, dear."

The hospital was bustling, and Alex was surprised at the amount of people waiting there.

"What happened to Angel?" Spike asked, glancing at Cordelia and the newest person to help the group in Los Angeles, a half-demon named Doyle.

"He's busy in Los Angeles," Doyle said, looking up. "He and Whistler ran into some problems, and their taking care of them."

Cordelia grinned, holding Doyle's hand as she stood up to hug Alex. "How are you?"

"I'll be better when I know what's up with Gaby. And you might want to let go of his hand," Alex said, gesturing to Doyle.

Cordy blushed. "Since...you know...I haven't been that far away from him. I'm always afraid he'll get hurt like that again."

Spike nodded. "We understand completely," he said, unconsciously moving closer to Alex. "It's strange to have someone die, and then come back."

"Well, unless they're a vampire it is," Doyle said.

Alex smiled and was about to respond when a nurse came out. "Excuse me, are you with the Harris party?"

Alex pointed to herself and the nurse nodded. "Yeah..."

"You must be Miss Giles, then. Come with me." The nurse turned and walked down a hallway and into an office, with Alex reluctantly walking behind her.

"Miss Giles?" came the voice. "There's a transatlantic phone call here from a Rupert Giles."

Alex perked up, picking up the phone. "Uncle Rupert!"

"How is she? Angel called to let us know."

"Gaby's fine. How's Patricia?"

"She almost went into labor, but not quite. Almost time, though. What's going on at the hospital now?"

"I honestly don't know. I just got here, but I get the impression it's almost time."

"That's a relief, actually."

"Yeah--" Alex said, only to get tapped on the shoulder by Xander, who was holding two cigars, one wrapped in pink and one in blue. Alex squealed, giving her brother-in-law-to-be a hug.

"What was that?" Giles asked.

Alex handed the phone to Xander, who was grinning like an idiot. "She had the twins, and they're totally healthy. William is seven pounds ten ounces, and Alexandra is six pounds eight ounces."

Giles relayed the information to his wife and Xander wasn't surprised to hear a "Finally!" in the background. "Well, we're glad. Give them hugs from us, all right?"

"Of course," Xander said, handing the phone back to Alex.

"Uncle Rupert? I'm going to go now, all right? I'll call later."

"All right. Take care and avoid the sun and sharp pointed wooden objects."

"Ha. Ha. Ha. Very funny." She hung up the phone and went into the waiting room, finding no one there. Looking around, she saw all her friends standing around a window.

"Alex!" Willow called, motioning for her to come over.

"What was up?" Oz asked, not looking away from the window.

"Uncle Rupert. Wanted to know what was going on." She finally got over to the window looking into the nursery. "Which ones?"

Doyle pointed out two babies about to fall asleep. "Those two."

The girl had Gaby's black hair and Xander's brown eyes while the boy had Xander's brown hair and Gaby's blue eyes. They both looked peaceful among the screaming babies.

"This is a good day," Alex muttered, leaning back against Spike and watching her niece and nephew spend their first peaceful hours on the Earth sleeping.
