Timeline:  Throughout the entirety of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, concluding post-Not Fade Away

Summary:  So many years, so many conversations; how many whispers have passed between Buffy and Spike, and what have they meant?

A/N:  Each installment deals with a different, canon-based moment in which Buffy and Spike have a conversation to which no one else is privy, a conversation that serves as a watershed moment in their relationship.  The series spans a period beginning post-season 2 of BtVS and ending post-Not Fade Away

Installment one, set post-Becoming.  Buffy's in Los Angeles, and all-night diner clientele is nothing if not unpredictable...

Installment two, set post-Sanctuary (season 1 of AtS, coinciding with season 4 of BtVS).  Buffy's just been sent from Los Angeles by Angel in the wake of Faith's reawakening, attempts at revenge, and baby steps towards redemption.  Being dismissed isn't high on the list of things that makes for a happy Buffy, but fortunately there's always patrol for getting rid of tension.

Installment three, set post-Forever, BtVS.  Joyce has passed away and been buried; Dawn's attempted resurrection was thwarted at the last minute.  Buffy, having no other choice, has gone back to business as usual, but then her patrol intersects with a vigil.

Installment four, set post-Dead Things, BtVS.  Buffy left Spike in the alley, battered and broken, to find his own way home before the sunrise.  His healing in the aftermath, however, isn't left unaided.

Installment five, set during Older and Far Away, BtVS.  It takes a lot of work to move from awkward silences to comfortable companionship--just how did Buffy and Spike end up playing cards the morning after her party?

Installment six, set pre-Him, BtVS season 7.  Buffy couldn’t help Cassie, and Anya’s determined to find her own way, but there’s one person who needs Buffy’s aid—if she can find a way to reach him.

Installment seven, set post-Lies My Parents Told Me, BtVS season 7.  Spike's dechipped and detriggered, but the secret the First used against him still weighs heavily. Is confession really good for the soul?

Installment eight, set post-Not Fade Away, AtS season 5.  With another apocalypse over, Buffy and Spike meet on a very different kind of battleground. Can they navigate it successfully and both come out victors?
